Sustainability

At Pembroke Kilkenny, we are committed to being a great hotel for our incredible location. Sustainability is an important pillar of this commitment, and we strive to contribute positively across our social, economic and environmental impacts. Integrity and ethical behaviour are the cornerstone of our business. Click through the below to find out what we've done so far, or watch the short video to see for yourself!

We really believe in supporting our local community so that we can pay forward all the goodwill and support we have received over the years. We get involved though financial contributions, in-kind giving and volunteerism.  We try to support as many charities, festivals & local organisations as possible. Every three months, our unclaimed Lost & Found items are donated to local charity shops (NCBI).

We are patrons of: National Craft Gallery, Butler Gallery, Watergate Theatre

We support: Cat Laughs Comedy Festival, Kilkenny Roots Festival, Kilkenny Arts Festival, Savour Food Festival, Kilkenomics Festival, Subtitle Film Festival, Barnstorm Theatre, Kilkenny & Carlow Samaritans, Pieta House, The Solas Centre, HSE Mental Health, Kilkenny Golf Club, Kilkenny Musical Society, the Special Olympics and various fundraising events around Kilkenny city and county.

We also work with Kilkenny Tourism, Kilkenny County Council, Tourism Ireland and Failte Ireland supporting efforts to entice visitors to Kilkenny

Our sustainability strategy supports many environmentally friendly practices.

We are one of the only hotels in Kilkenny to offer air-conditioning to guests, with a smart energy conserving strategy to combat this huge energy drain.

The hotel also has solar panels installed and uses heat exchangers to heat water more economically. We have also invested in water saving technology. The comfort conditions in Statham’s Bar & Restaurant are managed with natural ventilation as far as possible.

Our windows are newly replaced with triple glazing to increase thermal efficiency and eliminate noise pollution.

With our city centre location, we encourage guests to explore on foot or bike. We have EV chargers available in the car park at no extra charge.

We have installed filtered water taps in bedrooms, avoiding the need for plastic bottles. We provide water in glass jugs or recyclable cartons for meetings and events.

Our bathroom products are from GAIA and are Leaping Bunny approved. All products are made from natural ingredients in eco-friendly packaging.

The hotel is working towards the Failte Ireland Green Award of Excellence and our staff follow guidelines for environmentally friendly practices within their daily work.
We establish an ethical code of practice with all suppliers. We make site visits before committing to new suppliers and visit current suppliers on a continuous basis. Our fish is supplied by Kish Fish, one of the only sustainable fish suppliers in Ireland. Dawn Meats, one of the first verified members of Origin Green, supplies our meat. Our vegetables come from local organic grower, Riversfield Farm, free from chemicals and pesticides.

Our goal is to purchase 75% of all produce locally.
